Our Las Palmas Puerto Armuelles neighborhood watch group in is revitalizing itself.
(FYI Puerto Armuelles is in Panama. It is the only true beach town in Panama. Puerto Armuelles is located on the Pacific Ocean in Chiriqui, near Costa Rica)
I am looking forward to it.
Our Las Palmas neighborhood is a mix of both ex-pats and Panamanians.
Many of the Panamanians who live in Las Palmas speak English, which allows for an easier integration of the group.
In fact, many of the residents attended the Las Palmas English school that was sponsored for decades by Chiquita banana.
We discussed a number of issues of concern in our neighborhood.
One item we discussed was horses.
A few people , who do NOT live in Las Palmas, bring their horses to the neighborhood to graze. There is alot of open grassy areas here.
The problem is that horses eat everything. They are more like a goat than you would think.
I am frustrated by them coming into our yard and eating my pineapple plants (Pineapple plants take 2 years before they start bearing fruit!), in fact we are going to put in gates to keep them out.
But I will miss seeing the horses roam our neighborhood.
My guess though is that we will be having horses here for awhile.
There is no easy solution. We would most likely have to catch the horses ourselves and have the police collect them. The police would then fine the owners.
My lassoing skills are a bit rusty.
I'll let you know if our Neighborhood Watch is successful in kicking the horses out.
Interested in living in Las Palmas? We have a property on the brow of the hill.
It has wonderful ocean views.
